NCBCPS Revises Own History
Like most church/state cases involving school curriculum issues, the case of Moreno v Ector County Independent School District will be evaluated by a Federal judge using the Lemon test. This case is challenging the constitutionality of that school district's use of the NCBCPS curriculum for teaching the Bible in public schools. The Lemon test has three prongs:
Your first step to get God back into your public school I pointed out that this was clearly evidence of religious intent on the part of the NCBCPS, that it indicated that their goal in putting together the curriculum was not to educate students about the Bible in an objective, scholarly manner but to use it as a tool to proselytize students to convince them to believe in God. Less than 3 hours after that post went up, one of my readers followed the link and said that they didn't find that phrase in there. I went to check and, sure enough, they had edited that phrase out of the Norris article. The next day I posted a follow-up to that post where I pointed out that it had been edited and cited the evidence to prove it. I pointed to the original text of the Norris article at the Worldnetdaily, which still included that language at the time. I also pointed to the google cache of the NCBCPS page, which showed the original language before they edited it. That night, one of my readers followed the link to the Worldnetdaily version of Norris' article and found that article had subsequently been edited as well. The phrase I quoted above was changed to:
Your first step to get the Bible back into your public school I archived each of these pages before the edits were done, so all of this can easily be proven. Another blogger posted screenshots of the cached pages and the newly edited ones on his blog as well. All of this information will be turned over to the attorneys in the Moreno case and it will not bode well for the defense when it is shown that the organization that put together the curriculum at issue is so intent on attempting to make their own religious motivations disappear down the memory hole. Next they'll be telling us that we've always been at war with Oceania.
