LaHaye speaks on 501c3 at HAPC
By wilkyjr Wed May 14, 2008 at 03:52:21 PM EST printable version print story
In what was billed as a conference for Houston pastors, the topic of how minister's freedoms were being assaulted was addressed by Tim LaHaye.  The specifics of this meeting have been posted earlier. In short, these pastors felt as if Barry Lynn of Americans United for Separation of Church and State had picked on pastor Riggle.  Riggle, an Oral Roberts U. grad had allowed his name and the church where he was pastor to be highlighted in an endorsement for a political candidate to take Tom DeLay's place in Congress. The web site is wrong claiming that a Liberty U. law professor would take up the topic.  Tim showed up along with Kelly Schackleford.

Tim started off with a short biography, failing to mention he was also a graduate of Bob Jones University. Tim got bad advice from his mentor and early pastor who told him to not get involved in politics.  LaHaye did not want these ministers to get the same wrong council.  Now the government is anti-Christian because of pastors who will not take a stand.  The nation was supposedly founded on Christian principles and several Christian leaders were mentioned.  David Barton was quoted as a source.
Tim laments the fact that PBS never lets "us" on its programs.  He did mention with note that the crowd watched Bill O'reily. Tim claimed he helped found the Moral Majority which was intended to defend Christianity against the ACLU.  The speaker claims that freedom is worse today than it ever was in the nation.  He also bashed public schools as being based on anti-Christian principles. Public schools are not our friends, he tells the pastors.  Tim has a book out bashing public education.
The blame for a depraved nation falls at the feet of pacifist pastors.  Tim says they sat by while the Supreme Court acted.  He has a solution for sex perverts.  On the first offense, cut off one testes, on the next cut the other off.  Pastors are not electing the right people, Tim stated.  He then told the story of a pastor in California who got organzied and ousted a legislator out of office.  He encouraged other pastors to take similar action.
LaHaye claimed that pastors have even participated in the eivl.  They did this by backing Jimmy Carter in 1976 who was dangerous and a "total liberal".  Tim went as an invited guest to a breakfast hosted by Carter and the question was asked Carter as to how many Christians Carter had appointed to places of service.  (Evidently Tim did not realize the Constitution prohibits religious tests for office.)  After Carter would not name any Christians, Tim left deeply troubled.  He prayed for a miracle to get rid of Carter and his prayers were answered by the elcetion of Reagan.  Which is of interest since Carter is a Baptist  Deacon and active in giving and church attendance.  Reagan seldom ever went to chruch and gave little if any to churches during his life.
The blame for the nation's woes fall at the feet of homosexuals and socialism.  Tim mentioned the one world order as a goal of these liberal elites.  Tim's connection to the influence of the John Birch Society and his partnership with them was evident by his stances.
LaHaye says pastors need to energize the people and urge the church family to vote for morals.  Register them to vote and then get them out to vote, he said. Tim said no one with values could vote for a man who lent his support to abortion.
He ended by stating we have this freedom now.  As to whether or not our sons and daughters will have these freedoms is up to the audience.
Tim never once dealt with the topic of pastor Riggle getting into hot water over using his name as pastor of a church to be sent out on a letter of endorsment for a candidte.  Tim mostly preached a message about his struggle with the culture and did not take up the topic the meeting was promised to address.

Castration for (male) homosexuals? Are the lesbians under the radar, as usual?

by nogodsnomasters on Wed May 14, 2008 at 06:59:00 PM EST
It should be noted that LaHaye isn't referring to LGBT people (who are invariably referred to as "sodomites" in neopentecostal dominionist circles); no, "perverts" here equals heterosexual sex offenders, not same-sex sex offenders.

One presumes he's not calling for the outright Levitican punishment (death by stoning) for straight sex offenders, in part, because there is a tiny bit of a problem with sexual predators in LaHaye's home denomination--as is, we'd probably be seeing a lot of entirely neutered pastors in neopente denominations.

No, typically in these circles gay men (and lesbians and "feminists") are in fact given a literal choice of "convert or die"--epitomised both in promotion of "degaying", and the increased promotion of outright hate groups like "Watchmen At The Walls" on the other end.

heterosexual pedophilia, and fetishism, and stuff like that?

In fact, the original poster has confirmed he was discussing primarily (het) paedophiles.

Tim was speaking of pediphiles regarding this punishment. The 82 year old has written a sex manual for Christians but when he mentoned this advice, he apologized to the ladies present if it was too graphic.

by wilkyjr on Thu May 15, 2008 at 02:40:03 PM EST

Note how he ties liberalism, pedophilia, and other things together.  It's as if anyone who isn't fundamentalist conservative is supportive of child abuse and other evils.

It's as if they're the "cure" for the world's problems.  I hate to destroy their fantasy- but their sort of thinking is the CAUSE of the world's problems!!!
