Chuck Norris On The Eve of Revolution?
I'm not saying that other states won't muster the gumption to stand and secede, but Texas has the history to prove it. As most know, Texas was its own country before it joined the Union as its 28th state. From 1836 to 1846, Texas was its own Republic.
How much more will Americans take? When will enough be enough? And, when that time comes, will our leaders finally listen or will history need to record a second American Revolution? He continued:
When I appeared on Glenn Beck's radio show, he told me that someone had asked him, "Do you really believe that there is going to be trouble in the future?" And he answered, "If this country starts to spiral out of control and Mexico melts down or whatever, if it really starts to spiral out of control, before America allows a country to become a totalitarian country (which it would have under I think the Republicans as well in this situation; they were taking us to the same place, just slower), Americans won't stand for it. There will be parts of the country that will rise up." Then Glenn asked me and his listening audience, "And where's that going to come from?" He answered his own question, "Texas, it's going to come from Texas. Do you agree with that Chuck?" I replied, "Oh yeah!" Definitely. How seriously should we take all this? It's hard to say. The column is partly a promotion for a rightwing populist event he is doing with Glenn Beck of Fox News -- who I have heard on Fox predicting riots and insurrection in response to Obama's economic policies. On the other hand, Norris's rhetoric is much like that of the rightwing militias and violent antiabortion cells of the 90s that organized in response to the administration of Bill Clinton. One need not reach a verdict about Norris based on one column, but the most important thing is not to lose sight that it is a demagogic stirring of the rightwing pot and will no be a factor in the success of Beck's national rightwing populist tele-rally this Friday, March 13th at 5pm EST on FOX News. Beck has already organized hundreds of meetups and gatherings to watch the show.
Here is a list of radio station sponsored meet-ups in response to the Norris/Beck rally. Here is a map where you can click through to the locations of literally hundreds of meet-ups. Some of these are in person, others are local message boards. The revolutionary rhetoric aside, this is a sizeable effort and will no doubt, not be the last. Hat tip to Buzzflash.
