Liberty may have been within its rights as a private institution to yank official recognition from the College Dems. It's been widely reported that the group's been banned--but in fact, it can still meet on campus and is currently working with the school to regain recognition. It's just not eligible to use Liberty's name or get funding from the school. However, it's more than valid to question the fairness of recognizing the College Republicans while not recognizing the College Dems. And yet, Liberty considers asking such questions to be undergirded with "malicious intent" (to quote the Liberty Counsel complaint)? And yet, Liberty believes that by doing so, AU is a Democratic front? The mind reels. To my knowledge, such a tactic has never even been attempted before since the religious right became a player in the 1980s. Not by Focus on the Family, not by the Christian Coalition, not by the American Family Association. Not even by Liberty Counsel's linear predecessor, Moral Majority. The velocity with this complaint should be rejected ought to create quite the breeze.
