Local Hysteria Over Heathcare Reform
Gary Ledbetter, editor of the fundamentalist Southern Baptist Texan, threw in his red meat to the readers. He cautioned that liberal Christians lead some of this movement and beware of a "Marxist overthrow" of government. In this August 24 issue he cited that there are those who want to make the gospel a "tract for the redistribution of wealth". He warned about "redistributionist politicians and celebrities". He concluded that embracing this new plan unseen in total "is absurd, maybe heretical". The U.S. Pastor's Conference, based in Houston, added some emotional language to the debate. Their site warns about a "Marxist takeover". The page stated the government wants to "micromanage everyone of our families". The obvious partisan position was that Democrats reject the idea of "personal liberty". Linda Brinson of the Winston Salem Journal, had a revealing article up on www.ethicsdaily.com She noted the source of the death panel myth comes form Liberty Council, a Falwell organizaiton connected to Liberty University. Their warnings are finding receptive ears adding to a climate of suspicion as well as rage.
