Gingrich's Fear of a Secular Socialist State
Former Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, has coined a term that fits the profile of what Religious Right leaders are claiming this decade. Newt fears the Secular Socialist State that he says America is becoming. On the cover of Gingrich's new book, America on the Brink, the author warns that the Obama administration wants to remake America from a country of personal freedom, faith and free enterprise, into a nation of endless bureaucracy, secularism and state control. He contends the current administration has built a secular socialist machine by the use of corruption. The Republican thinks the danger to America is greater than he ever dreamed. He describes a nation that punishes overachievers and kills small business. These machine politicians are opposed to God in public life and as an example cannot tolerate school prayer. pg. 2 The rights of terrorists are now elevated ahead of the lives of Americans. pg. 3 The author says the Chuck Colson prison ministry, which was using government support, is just another example of "Chasing religion from the public square..." pg. 31 The writer states that the First Amendment has been taken by the left to mean purging religion from public life. pg. 37 Newt admits there was no national religion in America. (A bit of refreshing news.) However, he states the liberal leaders in our country want to shut out religion from public life. Gingrich gives his legal advice on court rulings regarding separation of church and state. He states the Jefferson case of the Danbury Baptist letter is now used to tear down crosses and ban school prayer. He believes Jefferson's memory has become a tool to ban faith from public life. pg. 39 These secular liberals are also socialists. He wrote, "By any fair assessment of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid economic policies shows they are indisputably socialist." pg. 41 Of course Fox News has sought to expose this and that explains why the President has declared war against Fox. pg. 80 Newt believes the Democratic Party wishes to impose this Secular Socialist State by growing government. In their misguided desire to build another Great Society, they are using health reform to accomplish this goal. pg. 86 Public opinion has nothing to do with the President's wishes on health reform. The sole agenda of this reform is, "to increase the power of the secular-socialist machine". pg. 99 Big business is in on this plot according to the Georgia politician. They supported Obama to weed out small businesses who competed with them. Through socialism these corporations can get what they want through government control. pg. 115 Global warming is an alarmist myth according to the book. DDT regulation, genetically modified crops and other proven methods of feeding the poor have been the target of extremists. This scandal has harmed the world in the name of ecology. pg. 122 Newt's regard for the U.N. is lower than his respect for liberals. He found the U.N. is a "mechanism for redistributing wealth from the developed to developing countries." pg. 130 One particular quote of interest is the writer's concern about the moral bankruptcy that appears worse than the market's. He writes, "The secular-socialist effort to drive God and morality to one hour a week in church, Synagogue, Mosque, or Temple but preserve 167 hours a week for secularism, has deeply weakened our capacity to distinguish right from wrong, and sacrifice short-term gratification for commitment to permanent moral principles." pg. 33 Newt's own public moral lapses, he could conclude, are the fault of the secular state. He left his first mate, Kathleen, serving her divorce papers while she lay in a hospital bed just finding out she had cancer. In what must be the greatest pop culture look-whose-calling-the-kettle-pot story, while he was in hot pursuit of impeaching President Clinton over the Monica Lewisnky affair he was having his own while married to his second wife Marianne. He was once reprimanded for ethics wrong doing by the House of Representatives. He has apparently found forgiveness from the Religious Right. As to whether his secular state will is a question the candidate must face.
