Christian Broadcast Network: List of "Acceptable Nominees" for Vice President

Christian Broadcast Network's Brody File reports, "Last week around 70 conservative Christian leaders met in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., to discuss what it would take to get behind Romney." CBN's lead political correspondent, David Brody, states that the choice for the vice presidential candidate is crucial, and "acceptable nominees" for vice president include the following.
Tim Pawlenty
Mike Huckabee
Bob McDonnell
Rick Santorum
Bobby Jindal
Marco Rubio
Brody also reported that the Romney campaign has been quietly meeting behind the scenes with conservative evangelicals including Rick Warren, Richard Land, Gary Bauer, Samuel Rodriguez, and leaders from Focus on Family and Family Research Council.

The Brody  File is a regular CBN column written by David Brody, also author of the newly released book, The Teavangelicals: The Inside Story of How the Evangelicals and the Tea Party are Taking Back America.  In the book, Brody describes Mitt Romney's ongoing efforts to court Religious Right leaders including an account of an event hosted by the Romneys in 2006.

In a private meeting at his home in the Boston suburbs, Ann and Mitt Romney visited with more than a dozen evangelical leaders including Franklin Graham, the late Jerry Falwell, Richard Land, Jay Sekulow, Frank Wright, and Gary Bauer.  They sat in a circle and ate sandwiches while discussing topics like the fight against radical Islam, stem cell research, and Romney's Mormon faith.  It was by all accounts a pleasant meeting.  About a month later, all the evangelical attendees received a giant box. Inside was a chair with a brass plate on the back of it.  Inscribed on the plate was Romney's signature with the words, `There will always be a seat for you at our table.'"

Brody explains in the CBN article that Romney's selection of a vice presidential candidate and his use of more "pro-family language" will be crucial.
"As for the future, evangelical leaders tell The Brody File that Romney will go a long way to securing the base of the party if he picks a good vice-presidential candidate. Acceptable nominees could be Tim Pawlenty, Mike Huckabee, Bob McDonnell, Rick Santorum, Bobby Jindal, and Marco Rubio.

Also crucial will be for Romney to include more pro-family language as part of his stump speech. Many leaders feel he needs to conceptualize evangelical type issues as he goes around the country, including a defense of this country's Judeo-Christian principles and an explanation of the nation's fiscal crisis in moral terms."

Brody also describes meetings that Romney campaign directors have been having with other conservatives, including attending weekly gatherings in Washington D.C. with "influential leaders like Grover Norquist, Ed Meese, and Morton Blackwell."
Brody describes Mark DeMoss of the DeMoss Group as the Romney campaign's evangelical advisor.  I've written about the DeMoss Group, a public relations firm representing many of the major Religious Right entities, and the DeMoss family's foundation in a previous article about the dismissal of the growth of "Dominionist" ideology.

It was DeMoss who represented Romney at the gathering of Religious Right leaders in Texas in January 2012.  Brody describes the event as an effort to "coalesce around one presidential candidate." Rick Santorum came out ahead of Newt Gingrich in a desperate attempt by Religious Right leaders to nominate ABM (anybody but Mitt).

This has been a rough week for the Romney campaign, including being publicly lambasted by prominent conservatives Rupert Murdoch and William Kristol.  Will Romney now do the bidding of the Religious Right leaders who wanted "anybody but Mitt" only a few short months ago?

I'm a bit surprised that Rick Perry didn't make the list. I thought he was every evangelical's darling for a while. Is it perhaps because he flamed out so quickly?

And I'm wondering how many of these can be identified specifically as Dominionists.

Rick Perry made a fool of himself. I don't think the right wing has forgotten his stupidity yet.  Romney is such a liar that this really does show that the right wing phony Christians are sorry no good people who think they can fool people to think they are Christians.  Republicans have so many liars and so many hateful people that now I really do not trust the republicans at all.  They belong to the donors who are corporate owned evil people.

How can people think the right wing has any Christian thinking when all the GOP does is lie and cheat and spread more hate than Fox News does. We need honest people in our government who are not billionaires but are people who care about the country. The whole country of people who count just as much as the wealthy.

Latest internet chatter has someone in the Romney campaign "leaking" the news that Condoleezza Rice is a leading pick for VP. If that sticks for more than a day or two, it will be interesting to see reactions from the Christian right.
