Newtown Shootings an Israeli-US Plot Suggests Conspiracy-Mongering Professor

The Newtown, Connecticut school shooting may be part of a sinister Israeli intelligence operation according to retired professor James Fetzer. The Duluth News Tribune reported this week that Fetzer claimed "Israeli Mossad death squads and the U.S. government might have been behind the school shootings." Fetzer wrote in an online blog entry that the "Sandy Hook massacre appears to have been a psy op intended to strike fear in the hearts of Americans by the sheer brutality of the massacre, where the killing of children is a signature of terror ops conducted by agents of Israel."

Antisemitism is regularly woven into contemporary conspiracy theories and replicates centuries-old false claims about secret Jewish plots with the best-known being the hoax forgery the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. These claims cross political boundaries from right to left. A centerpiece of these lurid lies is that Jews specifically target children for ritualistic reasons.
Fetzer posted his blog entry at the Veterans Today website, which claims to be a "Military and Foreign Affairs Journal" but which is loaded with antisemitic rhetoric. In his column, Fetzer quotes Mike Harris of Veterans Today as saying "This is exactly what Israel did in Norway" with the 2011 terrorist attacks by Anders Behring Breivik which killed 77 people--mostly young adults. According to Harris, the target in Norway was "the political party that voted sanctions against Israel [and] was retaliated against by a 'lone gunman' who killed 77 children. This is what Israel always does, they go after the children. Nobody buys the 'one gunman' story anymore, not with the Gabby Giffords' shooting, not with the Aurora "Batman" shooting, certainly not with Breveik, and certainly not in Connecticut."

Fetzer writes that the US Department of Homeland Security "is gearing up to conduct a massive civil war against the American people, what better excuse could there be for banning assault weapons than the massacre of 20 innocent children at Sandy Hook Elementary School?" Fetzer then writes: "who better to slaughter American children than Israelis, who deliberately murder Palestinian children?" He then picks up a theme from the right-wing Patriot Movement by claiming the "existence of more than 300 FEMA camps and special boxcars to carry dissidents" to them is being suppressed by the US government.

The former University of Minnesota, Duluth professor already had a large national following among 9/11 conspiracy theorist, and he also spins conspiracy theories about the deaths of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Paul Wellstone.

Another conspiracy theory mongering professor from Florida Atlantic University, James Tracy, has claimed the shootings were possibly staged, may not even have happened, or at least have been misreported. See the Daily Kos article on James Tracy by Kaili Joy Gray: Obama staged Newtown shooting with 'crisis actors,' says professor who is totally not a crackpot
