A pretender to the legacies of both Billy Graham and Martin Luther King Jr. has a book coming out from the big evangelical publishing house Thomas Nelson on the day after April Fools Day.  

The title, "The Lamb's Agenda" reflects Rodriguez's claim to adhere to neither the political agendas of the Democratic donkey or the Republican elephant. He says represents the agenda of the "Lamb of God".  His actions over the years have, however, been overwhelmingly conservative and Republican and speak louder than his words.

In any case, in what must be one of the worst reasons to read a book ever committed to a publisher's blurb, the stated reason we should read this book is to get over our "begrudging service and empty religiosity."

Here is the context of the whole sentence:  

In this critical moment, begrudging service and empty religiosity must be replaced by the vibrancy of the Lamb's agenda, Christ's plan of redemption in the world.

Now I suppose that the copy was intended to mean that the Lamb's agenda (as interpreted and shaped by Rodriguez) can replace the begrudging attitude of some toward good works; and the emptiness that some, maybe many, may feel in their respective religious traditions.  But it comes across as an insulting slam on the beliefs or non-beliefs, and the good works and good deeds of everyone and anyone who may not meet the approval of Samuel Rodriguez.

Of course, the book may not be anything like the promotional copy.  But if past is prologue, I suspect that it is.
