Kountze Cheerleaders Take on the Courts

The entire town of Kountze, Texas is in a frenzy with business banners, suv window paintings and legal action supporting their local cheerleaders. The small East Texas town is just a few miles north of Beaumont. It made national news by the pom pom girl's defilement of their school administration's caution about posting Bible verses at the football stadium.
A few years ago Superintendent Kevin Weldon was approached by a concerned parent about the posters that football players ran through and other banners in the stands. He told the girls, after checking with state education officials, that this was not to be done.  The town promptly erupted in furor.  Baptist ministers began organizing the young ladies to protect their "free speech."  In 2014, the school board told the girls to go ahead with their banners, much to the praise of the local community.
Local Baptist churches in the area are of the fundamentalist version and appear to be in support of the girls and not religious liberty court rulings.  A local court upheld the cheer squad.  The girls hired David Starnes, of all things a personal injury lawyer from Beaumont.  He promised to defend their free speech in case the courts made the wrong decision by appealing to the Texas Supreme Court.
Liberty University's law school is backing the girls along with Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz.  Gregg Abbott, the GOP candidate leading the polls for governor, is on board with the squad.  Abbott is the Attorney General whose claim to fame is that he kept the Ten Commandments posted at the Capitol building.
Cheer leading is a cultural event in Texas.  Our governor was a cheerleader.  Kountze is about an hour from me and I wonder how far this movement will spread?  The school is about an hour from another famous cheerleader town that hosted the pom pom mom.  The notorious lady who was accused of hiring someone to kill her daughter's rival for the cheerleader squad.  Silsbee is just a few minutes from Kountze and it also had a famous cheerleader incident.  A popular football star was accused of rape with an underage drunk cheerleader.  It was interesting that there was little support for the young white girl who was alleged assaulted by an older black athlete.  Local feelings about a black President that is secretly Muslim and the government's attempts to banish Christians from the public square enter into the scenario.  The last Baptist meeting I attended was to feature a pastor who warned us the government was openly opposed to the Christian faith and wanted to harm it.

Display:
Word has it the Texas Supreme Court does not like to deal with things like this.  What this means  is that legally there is an open door to reverse the decision regarding the Santa Fe ruling regarding school football prayers. More confusion for public school administrators who will feel the pressure to go along with movement.

The ACLJ loves these kinds of cases and they seem to win them more often than not. The problem of having schools that are paid for with tax payer money is the problem. I wonder how the Fins and Japanese deal with it? Oh, they don't have such problems.

I found the article on the Kountze cheerleaders and their legal battle to be fascinating.  Lab grown diamonds It's inspiring to see a small town come together in support of their local cheerleaders and their freedom of expression. The national attention they received shows the importance of standing up for one's beliefs. Well done!
