The World According to Tim LaHaye: Chapter Two - Pre-Trib Perspectives

Left Behind
In the Left Behind video game and book series, who is really behind the gigantic global end times conspiracy against Christians? It's a trilateral plot by liberals, secular humanists, and the devil! And don't forget the allies of the troika of terror.

According to LaHaye, the devil installed President Roosevelt to assist the takeover of America by a conspiracy of Godless secular humanists (who now control the media, the courts, the universities, and the entertainment industry) plotting to turn the "American constitution upside down" and "use our freedoms to promote pornography, homosexuality, immorality, and a host of evils characteristic of the last days." (LaHaye, PTP, April 2003, p. 2).

Pre-Trib Perspectives (PTP) is a goldmine of text for nuggets of the wit and wisdom of Tim LaHaye, especially concerning LaHaye's views on the vast conspiracy of secular humanists to shove God out of America.

"I have no question the devil is behind what the apostle Paul called 'the wisdom (philosophy) of this world' and controls many of our courts and other areas of influence," states LaHaye, who believes the devil arranged the "crafty election of Franklin D. Roosevelt as president for twelve years." (Ibid.)

It all began in Europe. LaHaye traces the roots of the sacrilegious Satanic scam to the merger of German rationalism with French rationalism, which concocted a philosophy "antagonistic" to Christianity and God. LaHaye states that "in the nineteenth century this anti-God secular man-centered philosophy conquered the universities of Europe, trained journalists, educators, and entertainers, and today controls the countries where the church is impotent" (LaHaye, PTP, April 2003, p. 3).

So now "Europe, once the center of evangelical Christianity, Bible translation and distribution, and even revival, has bought into the philosophy of secular humanism. That philosophy is based on atheism, evolution, autonomous self-centered man, and socialism" (Ibid). There was a brief glimmer of hope. "At first the Christians fled to the Americas," LaHaye explains, but the secular humanists surged across the Atlantic in a toxic tidal wave of moral sewage and monstrous sin (LaHaye, PTP, April 2003, pp 2-3).

Now, warns LaHaye, the "Anti-Christ Philosophy Already Controls America and Europe:

"All thinking people in America realize an anti-Christian, anti-moral, and anti-American philosophy permeates this country and the world. It dominates the public school system from kindergarten through graduate school. It controls the media from the daily print press to popular magazines (from porno to mainline), the six major TV networks, most of all cable TV; it dominates the entertainment industry, and it elects a predominance of liberals to both parties in our national government (LaHaye, PTP, September, 1999, online)

LaHaye wants you to know that this evil "alien philosophy does not come from the Bible, but is antithetical to it. In this country it flies under the banner of "liberalism," but in reality it is atheistic socialism at best and Marxism at worst." LaHaye concludes: "Let's face it, the Antichrist's philosophy is already here." And if you are Left Behind to fight to survive for the seven years of the Tribulations, you better know who is the enemy.

So tomorrow, on the Fourth of July, look around you at your neighbors and see if you can tell who are the Godly Christians, who must convert or die, and who are the agents of Satan who must be killed in the end times battle. And then ponder whether or not democratic civil society--the object of our celebration--can survive this demonizing apocalyptic narrative of "Us" versus "Them" central to LaHaye's worldview.

in the run-up to the release of the video game. LaHaye's hateful conspiracy theories have gotten a free pass from the media.

It is amazing how much of a free ride LaHaye, his books, and the game have gotten from the media.  It is if they are afraid to be critical for fear of being considered a religious bigot.

But all they have to do is quote one of the many religious critics of LaHaye. Astonishing cowardice and incompetence.

I am a college student, and going into graduate school in the Fall.  Fundamentalism is disliked on campus because of it's offensive nature and destructive words and behaviors that regularly are shoved into people's faces.  On the other hand, true Christianity, when people learn about it, is welcomed.

The problem is, Christians now has a stereotype on campus as bigoted, ignorant, mind-control conservative fanatics.   When people learn that there ARE thinking, caring, intelligent Christians who promote freedom, they are VERY positive.

Tim LaHaye and his version of Christ may not be welcome, but the TRUE Jesus IS.

I suppose the problem is that Jerry Jenkins has been so successful in presenting a toned-down LaHaye shorn of his worst excesses.
