"Just When You Thought It Was Safe to Re-embrace Paganism"

TTA contributor Kathryn Joyce has just debuted at Newsweek with a fascinating article on Doug Phillips (son of Howard) and his recent Jamestown Quadricentennial Celebration. Phillips believes that the official commemorations organised at the site were a travesty of a great Christian historical moment:

"At what should be a crowning moment of blessing, celebration and thanksgiving to God, America is being held hostage by savage philosophies reanimated from the grave and marching on Jamestown...It's down on Western Christendom, up with spirit guides...If you go on the [commemoration's] Web site, you'll find that not the natives, but the settlers were cannibals; that they were terrorists against the environment; that there was a holocaust; that the settlers were guilty of lynchings; that a genocide took place."

And as part of the effort to put the record straight, Phillips's website includes a remarkable poster, which I've placed below the fold:

Phillips's "Vision Forum" has also just announced the 2007 "George Washington Man of the Year". And the winner is...

He's right in some things (none / 0)

All demonstratibly if not gruesomely accurate.  Even the comment about the settlers being cannibals may have solid basis in truth (during the starvation period).

Otherwise- What in H*LL does "spirit guides" have to do with traditional NA beliefs????

"SPIRIT GUIDES" ARE NOT IN ANY EASTERN NA TRADITION THAT I'M AWARE OF.

That is newage nonsense- as much of a problem for us as the fundies think it is for them.

I must say, however- that I DO like the poster!!!
