Neo-Nazis and Christian Reconstructionists Love Ron Paul

As Andrew Walden, writing for The American Thinker, notes in an excellent November 14, 2007 piece titled The Ron Paul Campaign and its Neo-Nazi Supporters, at least one high profile voice on the American right, Michael Medved, has  issued, on a the website of a leading right wing forum, Townhall.com, a public challenge to Ron Paul concerning his association with far-right hate groups. Wrote Medved:

Dear Congressman Paul:

Your Presidential campaign has drawn the enthusiastic support of an imposing collection of Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, Holocaust Deniers, 9/11 "Truthers" and other paranoid and discredited conspiracists.

Do you welcome- or repudiate - the support of such factions?

[Medved, continued]

More specifically, your columns have been featured for several years in the American Free Press -a publication of the nation's leading Holocaust Denier and anti-Semitic agitator, Willis Carto.  His book club even recommends works that glorify the Nazi SS, and glowingly describe the "comforts and amenities" provided for inmates of Auschwitz.

Have your columns appeared in the American Free Press with your knowledge and approval?

As a Presidential candidate, will you now disassociate yourself, clearly and publicly, from the poisonous propaganda promoted in such publications?...

So far, from what I can tell, Medved has gotten no response from Ron Paul or his campaign except for a call, from the Ron Paul campaign via its website, for Ron Paul supporters to shout Medved down.

In short, then, Medved's accusations are true enough to be, at least, not legally actionable and, indeed, Ron Paul - who otherwise is articulate enough - doesn't seem to have anything to say about the matter and prefers to attack the challenger rather than deal  with Medved's challenge and that's especially notable because Medved is generally considered to be fairly far right himself - so, in other words - Ron Paul is, arguably, a truly fringe candidate except.... tons of GOP voters are opting to support him in the primaries.

As Andrew Waldmen goes on to demonstrate in his piece, Ron Paul and his campaign aren't just knowingly receiving campaign funds from white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups ; there's a profusion of ties between Ron Paul, his campaign, and Neo-Nazi, white supremacist, and KKK groups. In fact, Waldmen cites one blogger, Adam Holland, who's also covering Ron Paul's hate group ties and writes:

The Lone Star Times has revealed that the Ron Paul campaign has received at least one contribution from neo-Nazi leader Don Black, who heads an internet-based group called Stormfront. (Read the Lone Star Times piece here)

I've been looking at neo-Nazi support for Ron Paul and found that there's quite a bit. It seems that one of Rep. Paul's top internet organizers in Tennessee is a neo-Nazi leader named Will Williams (aka "White Will"). Williams was the southern coordinator for William Pierce's National Alliance Party, the largest neo-Nazi party in the U.S.

I've been meaning to write something about Ron Paul for a while now, but Waldman, Holland, and others have been so thoroughly on top of Ron Paul's hate group ties all I really need to do if honor their work. Waldman's especially - his piece I've mentioned documents just how astonishing dense Paul's ties to groups espousing racial hatred, Nazi ideology, Holocaust denialism, and sometimes violence, really are and I have to wonder at the fact that the mainstream media doesn't see fit to cover this for the scandal it should be.

I actually wrote up a long essay on the Libertarian GOP candidate back when Dennis Kucinich, probably just as a ploy for media attention, suggested the truly bizarre idea of a Kucinich-Ron Paul presidential ticket and - I have to admit - the strong anti-war chops of such a pairing was, solely on that count, very appealing... except for the huge amount of baggage Ron Paul is dragging along. I actually shelved my Kucinich-Ron Paul essay thinking why am I writing this ? Kucinich and Paul are marginal candidates.

Then, the Ron Paul campaign rolled out of Iowa with 10 percent of Iowa's GOP caucus vote, way ahead of Rudy Giuliani's 3.5% take and Ron Paul is currently beating other supposedly "mainstream" GOP candidates - such as Fred Thompson - in the polls of New Hampshire GOP primary voters. So, I suppose Ron Paul isn't as marginal as I thought and that makes me a bit concerned because Ron Paul isn't merely just, along with Mike Huckabee, another GOP presidential candidate with a more or less unabashed Christian Reconstructionist beliefs ; in his willingness to accept campaign contributions from Neo-Nazis, his track record of writing on (ahem) dubious websites, his association with Holocaust denialism, one would think Ron Paul would tend to be shunned but that's, perhaps, an American coastal sensibility.

As another way of looking at things though, consider this proposal - politics that would truly have been considered fringe have, since the early 1960's, become mainstreamed....

If you have a specific type of hate speech, see the site search systems upper left.

Or you can look here ( "hate speech" ) or here ( "hate groups" )

There are hundreds of stories on this site that probably would fall in those categories but that's a quick start.

Considering that Michael Medved is one of the "culture warriors" of the Religious Right. Here at USF Paul seems to be popular with the Libertarian crowd because he says the right things. Hell, most of those geeks are  Social Darwinists anyway so they probably don't care.

Sees Ron Paul as a threat, but he's probably wise to do so - Ron Paul's out of the old paleo-con mold, and the Christian right has spent a good deal of energy trying to tamp down Paul's atavistic sorts of anti-semitic and racist leanings.

...that's a great article. Tomorrow, the Paultards(as they're known around here) are probably going to be peddling their snake oil.
BTW, I guess I should warn you that I am also a "paleocon" as well as lifelong Republican. However, AFAIC, Dr. Paul has long slipped his moorings and has chosen to travel with the reactionary fascists and their ilk. The biggest problem that I see with current Libertarian thought is that it is dominated by Social Darwinists.
For the record, my political thinking starts with the acknowledgement that our Constitution begins with the phrase "We the People of the United States..." There are no qualifiers based on race, creed, economic status, or sexual preference. I believe that seperation of church and state is the best guarantee of religious liberty. My political mentors are Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, and Harry Truman.
Well, enough of this. I hope this doesn't violate the site rules and if it should then my apologies to you and Fred.

...who also happens to be a friend of mine. He read the article and had these reactions.

1.) Ron Paul is running an out of the mainstream campaign. Of course he's going to attract fringe groups.
2.)Look at his voting record while a member of congress.
3.)There are a lot of people who are in this that I don't agree with. How is this different than any other group?
4.) Ron Paul believes very much in the First Amendment. These people have a right to voice their opinion.
When I   asked about the call to try and get Michael Medved off the air, Bob got a little more evasive and hesitant. (BTW this is a different Bob than ArcheoBob).
It will be interesting to see how the Paulies handle this.

This link should help in the discussion of his run for office:

http://www.tnr.com/politics/story.html?id=e2f15397-a3c7-4720-ac15 -4532a7da84ca

This article indicates that the man believes the same things that the far right people espouse.  NOT a good sign.

Everything I've heard about him is that he's not repudiated and rejected his earlier views.  I used to be conservative, and I've repeatedly told people so- and that I was brainwashed and ignorant of the truth.  I find it telling that there is no indication that he has done that.

ArcheoBob,

Thanks for the article. BTW, I find it interesting that I have not been able to find any minorities that support him.
