Article VI of the Constitution promises that, "no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States." So why did the Compassion Forum's moderators ask about Senator Clinton's belief in the Trinity, and what Senator Obama would tell his children about creationism? Not all questions related to faith and public life need be what, in other circumstances, would be a clear violation of the civil rights of our candidates. The Interfaith Alliance Foundation and Americans United for Separation of Church and State via thier joint project, First Freedom First, have come up with a list of better questions about the relationship of faith and public life. The media might try them out sometime:
