You know, of all the times to choose to be away from Austin, it happens to be when the Netroots Nation is in town.  But with beaucoup bucks and plane tickets invested, alas there is little I can do.  

Have a great conference, and enjoy all that Austin has to offer its guests (though make sure you have plenty of sun-screen and water with you if you venture outside in the daytime -- it's been a very hot summer already, and we've barely started).

First. Going to Austin in the middle of summer is crazy. I live, just south, in San Antonio. It is seriously HOTTT down here and is just going to get worse. Why not meet at Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels? At least you can cool off in the water. Second (the serious part). Religious Left? Was there ever such a thing? Even a Religious Middle? Would that there was; but then maybe that's why the conference is happening. Okay, so I'm a little slow if that's it (yes, I read the entire post). I can't seem to recall any sort of united effort from a faith based standpoint in recent memory other than from the (not very) Religious Right. Third. The Religious Right seems to be locked into a struggle to kill itself off, or perhaps parts thereof. So while it is certainly politically noisy, not to mention dangerously out of touch, I don't think that I would call it dynamic. Damned maybe. Anyway, all the best (and my prayers for success) to you for making this effort.
