Ted Haggard and The New Apostolic Reformation

People on the American political left would probably classify Sandy Simpson and Mike Oppenheimer as being on the religious right. Regardless of where Simpson and Oppenheimer would place themselves, they are clearly on one side of a key bifurcation in American Christianity: they believe that evangelical Christians should be honest. In the footage below, Sandy Simpson and Mike Oppenheimer describe writing letters to Ted Haggard - after he had become head of the National Association of Evangelicals - accusing Haggard of being in C. Peter Wagner's New Apostolic Reformation. Haggard denied the charge and claimed not to know what Wagner's NAR was. Simpson and Oppenheimer also present footage showing Haggard, from his pulpit, describing his working relationship with C. Peter Wagner.

But it was unnecessary. In fact, Ted Haggard had written quite openly of his association with Peter Wagner, in Haggard's 1998 book The Life Giving Church:

"Peter Wagner regularly writes and speaks about the New Apostolic Reformation. He has accurately recognized the changes as so dramatic that they are creating an actual reformation within the body of Christ." [page 44, The Life Giving Church (1998, Gospel Light Publications]. On page 35, of his book, Haggard describes a 1992 meeting in Upland, California, that was the beginning of his relationship with Peter Wagner:

"When I arrived, I met Luis Bush, Dick Eastman, Peter and Doris Wagner and several other recognized leaders. From that meeting, New Life Church formed its mission for the 1990s-to support Luis Bush generally and Peter and Doris Wagner specifically... a calling that led to the creation of the World Prayer Center and much more.  We as a team coordinated the Prayer Through the Window series that had 22,500,000 participants in 1993; 36,700,000 participants in 1995; over 40,000,000 in 1997." Although they are evangelical Protestant Christians on the right leaning side, they seem to disdain dominionism probably as much as the left leaning Christians, and other people who support Talk2Action. (They and the websites they are linked to also rail against many of the TBN and other Religious Right celebrities, especially the New Apostolic Reformation, Rick Warren, etc.) They think Dominionism is The New Christian Fascism and also that it is unscriptural, heretical, and full of apostasy and leading many Christians astray: http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/christianfascism.html (Sandy Simpson states in this article: "What is the end result of this Christian fascism? Ultimately it will be the same result as Islamic Fascism, Nazism and any other totalitarian structure based on religious fervor." ) also see http://www.deceptioninthechurch.com/dominionismexposed.html

Yup, Oppenheimer and Simpson are within a community of what I call "antidominionist Evangelicals"--generally evangelical and even occasionally outright fundamentalist, but VERY much against "Christian Nationalism" as a whole and NAR dominionism in particular.

Ironically, it's probably sites like Let Us Reason and Deception In The Church that are the most vocal opponents of the NAR (and generally have had the best info on what is actively promoted in NAR churches, aside from the horse's mouth and walkaways who've seen it from the inside); generally, they're trying very hard to keep their flocks from being targeted by this (and they are targeted EXTREMELY aggressively, even more so than most Christian groups).
