Video Exposes Antigay Preacher's Friendship With US Senator Sam Brownback
TheCall Founder Lou Engle has been lambasted by human rights and gay rights groups for reneging on his pledge to not lend support to a bill before Uganda's Parliament that in its original form would allow the execution of gay Ugandans and create an Orwellian police state in which citizens would be required to report suspected homosexual activity or face three year prison sentences. According to a New York Times story Engle praised the "courage" and "righteousness" of Ugandan politicians supporting the now internationally notorious Anti Homosexuality Bill.
While some recent coverage of TheCall Founder Lou Engle's antigay prayer rally in Kampala, Uganda has depicted Engle as some sort of random, generic evangelist nothing could be further from the truth. As Talk To Action contributor Rachel Tabachnick details Lou Engle is a leader in C. Peter Wagner's New Apostolic Reformation. Tabachnick observes that,
"These are not just anonymous American and Ugandan "evangelicals." They belong to a specific movement with a clearly stated agenda that is rejected by many American evangelicals... The inability of the press to label this group as anything other than "American evangelicals" allows the NAR to continue to fly under the radar."
Lou Engle's recent emergence as the de-facto Republican Party prayer leader is an indication of the growing strength of the New Apostolic Reformation which seems to have by 2005 penetrated to the highest reaches of American politics.
Along with Senator Sam Brownback, Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, and Charisma Magazine publisher Stephen Strang (until recently listed as one of the apostles in C. Peter Wagner''s International Coalition of Apostles), Lou Engle was listed on the roster of those leading prayer at the Fourth Inaugural Prayer Breakfast, in honor of George W. Bush's reelection as president of the United States.
Engle is one of the prophets serving, along with Sarah Palin friend and prayer group leader Mary Glazier, on Peter Wagner's elite Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders.
