Dominionist Battle Cry "We are the Head and Not the Tail" Used by Bachmann in Debate

It's not unusual for candidates to use "dog whistles" or language that has a unique interpretation to a specific voter base, and last night's Republican debate was no exception.  Michele Bachmann answered a question about U.S. involvement in Libya using the phrase, "We are the head and not the tail."  Deuteronomy 28:13, "The Lord will make you the head and not the tail," has been adopted by the apostles and prophets of the New Apostolic Reformation as a theme for the Charismatic "dominionist" movement.  The wording is often slightly altered to "We are the head and not the tail," and used as the battle cry for the Reclaiming the Seven Mountains campaign to take dominion over seven areas - arts and entertainment, business, education, family, government, media, and religion.  At Talk2action.org, contributors have documented the repeated use and meaning of this phrase as used by New Apostolic leaders, including my September 2010 article titled "The Head and Not the Tail" - Battle Cry for the Seven Mountains Campaign.
That article was Part Two in an series on the 2010 election campaign in Hawaii and features numerous examples of the use of this phrase.  The state chair of the Hawaii Republican Party was quoted in Part One stating,  "We are the head and not the tail," in a letter supporting gubernatorial candidate Duke Aiona.  He described him as "the only righteous candidate" for governor in a race where the apostolic and prophetic movement was allied with a  candidate in both the Republican and Democratic primaries.

In Part Two, I noted that there are a few other common uses of this verse among certain groups, but with different interpretations of the meaning.  The phrase "We are the head and not the tail" has been widely popularized by the apostles and prophets of the New Apostolic Reformation and interpreted as being being chosen by God to take Christian dominion over the earth.

In Part Two, I included examples of the use of "We are the head and not the tail" by Apostles Lou Engle, Cindy Jacobs, Mary Glazier, Lance Wallnau, Chuck Pierce, C. Peter Wagner, Che Ahn, and Rick Joyner.

Michele Bachman used the phrase in an answer to a question about U.S. involvement in Libya. Bachmann objected to participation in a venture in which the U.S. does not lead.

"The United States does not lead from behind. We are the head and not the tail."
In a question about religion and government, Bachmann used another theme that is currently popular.  She stated that Americans' rights come from God, not from government.  Newt Gingrich used a similar  phrase in his speech at the recent National Rifle Association convention, stating that the right to bear arms comes from the Creator, not the Constitution.

Charismatic prayer warriors of the apostolic and prophetic movement or New Apostolic Reformation, have embraced a vision of the U.S. as a chosen instrument in the Christianizing of the world in preparation for the end times.  As I stated in "The Rise of Charismatic Dominionism" this represents a dramatic shift for the Charismatic/Pentecostal stream of Christianity and their role in politics.

"These Christian warriors would no longer be constrained by having to wait for a future Rapture. The battle against evil to bring about the millennial utopia would not wait for divine intervention, but be initiated by human hands - an army of Christian warriors bringing about the Kingdom, now."

We Are The Head And Not The Tail

When Sarah Palin gave the keynote address at the graduation program of the Master's Commission at Wasilla Assembly of God on June 8, 2008, she stated,

"There's been so many words, Ed [Pastor Ed Kalnins], over the state of Alaska, we being the head and not the tail, and, I see things now in the works it seems like, things like, that's coming to fruition. Things are percolating! Things are coming along, and just, you know, praying for an outpouring of God's spirit here, that revival to be here in Alaska."

Anyone who has watched the full two-hour ceremony will have seen that the it ended with the graduates being presented samuri swords.

In the following video, Patricia King, host of the Extreme Prophetic TV, introduces the program with Lance Wallnau using the "head and not the tail" phrase. Wallnau speaks about the Seven Mountain campaign.

The article "Lions in the Pews" further explains the New Apostolic Reformation and this theology.

In a Revival Fires Media video, Apostle Johnny Enlow, author of The Seven Mountains Prophecy explains that becoming "the head and not the tail" means to displace those that currently hold control over the "seven mountains" of society and government, like the Israelites displaced nations in order to take control of the land of Canaan.

The other three videos in the four-part series with Johnny Enlow can be viewed at http://www.revivalfires.tv/ondemand/Johnny%20Enlow%20The%20Seven% 20Mountains.html

In his book, Enlow pairs each of the "seven mountains" with one of the nations conquered by the Israelites, in seven chapters.

Hittites and the Mountain of Media
Girgashites and the Mountain of Government
Amorites and the Mountain of Education
Canaanites and the Mountain of Economy (Business)
Perizzites and the Mountain of Religion
Hivites and the Mountain of Celebration (Arts and Entertainment)
Jebusites and the Mountain of Family

Enlow closes with a chapter titled "The Head and Not the Tail." The book features endorsements from C. Peter Wagner, Seven Mountains guru Lance Wallnau, and Bob Weiner.  Weiner was the founder and leader of the now defunct Maranatha Campus Ministries and now serves as an apostle in the International Coalition of Apostles (ICA).

Lou Engle's "Keys to Dominion" audio CD set is advertised with these words,

The Church has been watching the parade of history move along.  We have been called to lead.  We are the head, and not the tail.  In friendship and partnership with God, the Church is meant to lead the parade of history and rule the nations!

Apostles and Politics

Steve Schultz is founder of the Elijah List website, a major clearinghouse for information about the apostolic and prophetic movement.  In 2002, Schultz posted a prophecy for Texas from Prophetess Cindy Jacobs.  Schultz added the following,

"Texas- you are about to undergo an `identity change.' You will become the head and not the tail. Instead of people complaining about the negatives aspects of being in the Bible belt-- they will begin to honor you, as a `model of apostles, prophets, and intercessors, working together from the Body throughout Texas. Lead on, Texas!'"
It remains to be seen if people will honor Texas for this, but on August 6, Rick Perry will be leading an event in which many of the organizers are leaders from Lou Engle's The Call and Mike Bickle's International House of Prayer - the youth-oriented organizations of two major promoters of New Apostolic ideology.

The event is being financed by the American Family Association, which broadcast an interview in March with Michele Bachmann, discussing her possible run for president.

A nine-minute video compilation by Bruce Wilson shows the growing partnership of the apostles with politicians, focusing on the relationship between Lou Engle and Sam Brownback, but also including Michele Bachmann, Jim DeMint, Newt Gingrich, and others.

Prosperity Doctrine

"We are the head and not the tail" is often used in context of the "great wealth transfer" from the ungodly to the godly that the apostles teach is imminent.  They claim that this wealth transfer, promised by God, will facilitate the process of Christianizing the globe.  Many of the prophecies of the New Apostolic leaders involve gaining wealth.

In a "prophetic word" for Saskatchewan Canada, Cindy Jacobs stated,

"For the Lord says, 'I Am going to completely reform the government of Saskatchewan. I am going to put in a prime minister (premier) that has a Joseph anointing, for there is great wealth in that province. I am going to release this wealth and I will make Saskatchewan the head and not the tail.' And the Lord says, 'I am going to begin to release not only schools of the prophets and worship schools, but I am going to open up the treasures of darkness from the earth.' Even as I prophesied over Alberta oil and gas, I prophesy that minerals, gold, oil and gas, particularly in the northern part of this province, there is going to come wealth."

Bachmann has used this phrase on the floor of the U.S. Congress in a speech on the high price of energy in June, 2008.  She stated,

"We can be less dependent on foreign oil. In fact, we can become independent of foreign oil and we can become a leading exporter of energy to the world and we can become the head, and not the tail."

On June 3, Michele Bachmann was interviewed by Iowa Public Television and also used the phrase, in talking about gas prices.

"People are very upset right now and rightly so, gasoline is about $4.00 a gallon, they haven't seen the economy turn around and what I want people to know is that this is not systemic, we don't have to stay this way.  We can again be the head and not the tail in America.  We don't have to watch ourselves get ourselves kicked because China is growing."

Of the current seven candidates in the Republican presidential primary race, Michele Bachmann, an Oral Roberts University graduate, has received the most vocal support from Charismatic domininists. However, it looks as if Rick Perry, who is also now working closely with New Apostolics, might be joining the race.  It will be interesting to see who wins the support of the apostles and the backing of their fifty-state network of prayer warriors.

for another in-depth article on probably one of the most NOT talked about problems in this country-  the numbers of politicians involved in and promoting Christian Dominionism, and the depth of this movement.  I don't understand why more of the mainstream media do not pick up on it. Where I live, I have tried often to give people a heads up on Ron and Rand Paul's connections to the Constitution Party, and everyone waves it off because it doesn't jive with libertarianism.  People like Bachmann are incredibly good at slipping stuff like this into speeches and writings. What I want to see is someone like John King stop and grill candidates when they throw this stuff out.  And by the way, Bachmann also lied when she said that the CBO projected a loss of 800,000 jobs due to the new health care law. But hey, what's the problem with a little lying amongst dominionists?

... that Constitutional Conservatism is theocratic libertarianism is a problem.  I can understand why the concept of theocratic libertarianism is counterintuitive to the press, but they need to figure this out.

Constitutional Conservatism is based on stripping the federal government.  But the way this works in their scenario is by filling the void with a strict moral order enforced at the local and state level. They won't need labor unions or labor laws because Christian managers will supposedly follow a strict code of behavior.  Likewise, they claim for the same reasons that they won't need civil rights laws, environmental regulation, etc.

Yeah, and I know what their strict code of behavior will be like.

I have the scars to show for it (LITERALLY!!!).
